Synopsis

Embraces are a perfect place to dwell. Two pandas are setting up their homes, each in their own way. They meet. They look at each other. They like each other. And then? How do you express your affection? How do you make the other feel the beat of your heart? How can you share the most precious good?

It is necessary to attend a special school: a school of embraces. Because with embraces, you can express many things: you encourage each other, celebrate a victory, share the joy of a meeting, or express the hope of reuniting when parting ways. And so our two pandas learn to manifest their emotions, until they share the greatest of all, the one that colors the world and makes bamboo bloom. A reflection on the communicative power of a simple gesture like the embrace: we are born in an embrace, from an embrace, and often we leave seeking an embrace; the embrace is what we most often desire in moments of discouragement, when we see someone after a long time, when we want to express uncontrollable joy. It is, above all, the gesture of sharing, of unity, of tenderness, of return, of reconciliation. A gesture that children seek and feel as natural within their emotional horizon, but that must be learned with each new encounter.

Why an embrace?

β€œabbraccio s. m. [der. di abbracciare]. – The act of embracing: to give or receive an embrace; kisses and embraces; a loving embrace; a dear embrace, as in the closing of letters.” (Treccani Dictionary)

Class Discussion: An embrace is a kind gesture: it’s not that simple. Is it easier to tease? Is it easier to be aggressive? Certainly not! A school of kind gestures is necessary.

Suggested Exercise: The Kind Gesture – arrange the children in a circle and, in turn, have one child stand in the center with their eyes closed. The other children should slowly approach the child in the center, one at a time, and make a kind gesture towards them (a gentle touch, a pat on the shoulder, an embrace).
