Synopsis
The show tells the story of cyclist Alfonsina Morini Strada, the first woman to compete in the Giro d’Italia alongside men in 1924. At that time, cycling was a predominantly male sport, and women who practiced it were not only very rare but often subjected to discrimination, mockery, derision, and harsh social criticism.
In the Kingdom of Italy in the early 1900s, Alfonsina paved the way for women in the most epic and heroic sport of all time, conquering, step by step, her freedom and the affection of the public.
The show employs artistic languages of theater, music, and video projections to tell a story of redemption and passion, of emancipation and courage.
Culture, Sports, and Society
Alfonsina’s story provides an opportunity to address themes such as gender equality, universal rights, and social redemption, and is suitable for workshop activities with adults or youth both before and after the performance.
