Synopsis
“Clap clap” is the sound of two hands – two hands playing, two hands high-fiving, two hands clapping at the end of a show. But “clap clap” can also be the start of a musical discovery: two hands realising that you can also use your body to create rhythm and make music. In a park full of animals – birds, dogs, cats and ducks – two children meet. At first they try to play, but almost straight away the game turns into a challenge: they play at chasing each other, seeing who can throw a stone the furthest, and who can lift the heaviest one. Eventually, they realise that playing against each other isn’t as much fun as playing together: so they bring new characters to life by animating a knee or drawing a big face on an elbow. But what unites them most of all is the discovery of music played with the body: with a grand concert of clapping and stamping, the two children play together using body percussion and eventually become great friends.
There is no set on stage, just the two actors and their bodies: but the park is there, and so are all the animals, brought to life through mime and the continuous musical score made up of sounds and onomatopoeia. And so ‘gnik gnok’ becomes the creak of a swing, ‘clop clop’ the footsteps of a runner, and ‘flip flpo’ the sound of a stone thrown far away. At the end of the show, the two actors then guide the audience – young and old alike – in discovering the musical potential of their own bodies: they tap their cheeks, snap their fingers, tap their chests and clap their hands.
It’s so engaging that the audience won’t be able to sit still: fun is guaranteed!
ZaTroCaRaMa is a social promotion association founded in Trieste by a group of professionals working in the fields of cultural programming, the visual arts and live performance.
The name ZaTroCaRaMa is derived from the final syllables of the seven arts — dance, theatre, music, sculpture, painting, architecture and cinema — and represents the desire to bring together different artistic languages within a single cultural vision.
