Synopsis
Everything you can do with gym mats and much more!
Matta Matta 2.0 is a performance that refuses to stay on the mat. Three dancers lose themselves in an adventurous landscape of gymnastics mats. Large, thick crash mats and jagged-edged interlocking puzzle mats, which can be assembled into floors of almost any size or raised into freestanding structures, become an ingenious stage set. At times, they form a labyrinth of dangerously swaying walls; at others, a tower, a sea of boats surrounding an island, a shield to hide behind, or the bed one has always dreamed of.
In many different ways, the children are invited to work with the dancers, moving and rearranging the mats and becoming part of the performance themselves. Here, they are right in the middle of the action rather than merely watching from the sidelines. The choreography is vibrant, wild, playful and challenging. With their daring dance moves, the performers impressively demonstrate that taking risks is only possible when people support one another.
